The Met Gala Hype is still going strong after days of the event. Was it the theme or the fact that the attendees didn’t pay much attention to it? Whatever it was, the Met Gala is known for being one of those exclusive events where celebrities and A-list socialites dress up most uniquely and shockingly while sticking to the theme that is set for the Met.
Royal Presence At The Met
For this year, the theme was decided to be ‘Gilded Glamour’ in which some celebrities such as Blake Lively and Billie Eilish rocked while others only came on the red carpet to disappoint. However, that’s the thing about the Met; the clothing is always loud, out there, and even controversial at times. Just look at Princess Diana’s Met Gala Dress! Despite being a regular person, the Royal family is notoriously known for its strict rules and regulation regarding how the Royal members are seen out in public and it’s safe to say that Princess Diana’s Met dress did not make the cut.
The Royal Met Dress
The reason this dress was considered controversial was that it was ‘too revealing’ for Princess Diana. If you’ve followed the Met Gala and the fashion choices, you’ll know that the words ‘too revealing’ are not in the Met Gala’s dictionary. Princess Diana showed up at the Met wearing a Lingerie-inspired gown in 1996.
The Royal Styling
The gown was made up of blue silk with black lace trim. The Princess paired it with a matching robe made from silk and topped the look off with her favorite pearl and sapphire necklace. When the pictures from the event were released, the world was shocked and even dubbed it her second revenge dress. While the Princess looked stunning in her outfit, it was reported that she had second thoughts about wearing the dress in the first place. She was worried that the gown and its revealing nature would result in an embarrassment for her sons William and Harry but she wore it anyway.
When it came to fashion, she was always the best-dressed but this dress is considered to be one of Princess Diana’s most shocking dresses.
